MORRISVILLE – Local startup Root Bioscience is looking to disrupt the cannabidiol (CBD) market.
Today, the Morrisville-based hemp manufacturer announced that it’s teaming up with Jerome Baker Designs to produce a new line of CBD products.
Since 1991, Jerome Baker has produced handblown smoking devices. Now it wants to include full and broad-spectrum hemp extract tinctures and salves under its brand.
“CBD is rapidly growing in popularity and we need a manufacturer that can scale to meet the demand of the new Jerome Baker CBD brand,” its founder, Jason Harris, said in a statement.
Launched in early 2018, Root Bioscience is seeking to capitalize on this booming industry.
According to state agriculture commissioner Steve Troxler, a pilot program for producing industrial hemp has grown in two years from 222 acres to 8,000 acres.
Troxler said the state now has 634 licensed farmers growing hemp on about 8,000 acres and 3.4 million square feet of greenhouse space. There are also 413 licensed processors statewide, up almost tenfold from a year ago, WRAL previously reported.
“Delivering quality, trustworthy CBD products is at the core of the Root Bioscience mission,” its CEO, Garrett Perdue, said in a statement.
Each package of Jerome Baker CBD features a QR code on the packaging that will take the consumer directly to the third-party report about the contents of the bottle, the firm said.
Tincture packaging also includes dosage on both the box and dropper, making it easy for customers to use the correct dose every time.
