A cannabis retail advisor wants to team up with the winner of a cannabis license lottery in Kitchener-Waterloo to ensure a store opens in the Waterloo region area.

Ontario Cannabis Holdings has helped other locations including Central Cannabis in London and locations in Alberta set up shop.

Jon Conquergood, the CEO of the company said they want to work with the license lottery winner to ensure the prospective retailer opens on time and within the rules set out by the province.

„What we are hearing from customers and people in the region was that they were upset and slightly angry that they didn’t have access to cannabis in their particular town,” said Conquergood.

„So with the new lottery rules what we want to be able to do is work with people who are interested in getting into cannabis to open a store in the Kitchener-Waterloo area and give access to the people in that region.”

John Conquergood said the restrictions for applying to the lottery are a lot higher than the first set of applications.

„For instance, you have to have a leased location available to apply,” said Conquergood. „Along with $250,000 of liquidatable assets, and another $50,000 dollar line of credit as well.”

Anyone interested in a cannabis license has until Aug. 9 to apply to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

The draw will be held on Aug. 20.
