Cannabis Cafe Lowell Farms Opens in West Hollywood in September – LA Magazine

America’s first official weed cafe is set to open in West Hollywood on September 24. Lowell Farms: A Cannabis Cafe will offer farm-to-table dining and smoking options, thanks to a brand new kind of business license that allows for on-premises cannabis consumption, along with food and drink service.

The experience at the cafe is designed to be welcoming and stylish (and well-ventilated), comfortable for cannabis enthusiasts, curious first-timers, and even those who just want a cool place to hang out with their weed-inclined friends without partaking themselves. It’s especially targeted to tourists who come to visit California from prohibition states and want to sample legal marijuana in a way that won’t get them kicked out of their hotels.

Any intimidation factor around knowing what you want to smoke is cleared up with Lowell’s tableside flower service option–which they liken to a marijuana sommelier. An expert “host” will guide you through the options to help you find the strains, effects, and methods that will best fit your needs.

Chef Andrea Drummer’s food and drink menu is intended to “compliment the heightened senses” that customers may be experiencing. Offerings will change often, but an opening preview menu includes dishes such as a burrata and grilled peach salad and a fried chicken sandwich, and a selection of non-alcoholic “cocktails.”

Nothing coming from Chef Drummer’s kitchen will be infused with cannabis, however a small selection of edibles made off-site will be available for sale at the cafe’s retail counter, along with Lowell Farms cannabis products that customers can pick up to consume at home.

The Lowell Farms brand may be familiar to even casual cannabis shoppers as one of California’s top growers. Based in Santa Barbara County and working with a number of small, family-owned farms in California, the company has focused on marketing a range of organic, seasonal cannabis products.

Over 300 businesses applied for West Hollywood’s on-premises consumption licenses, but the city has awarded only eight so far. They’re not all cannabis cafe outfits like Lowell; among the other yet-to-open licensees are a spa, a virtual reality gaming lounge, and an adult retailer.

Lowell Farms: A Cannabis Cafe opens September 24 at 1201 N. La Brea Ave., West Hollywood. Reservations can be booked starting at noon on September 4.
