A texting-while-driving traffic stop resulted in Massachusetts State Police discovering four pounds of marijuana, 1,000 Adderall pills and 500 THC cartridges Monday night in Bourne, authorities said.
The discovery led to the arrest of Jeancarlos Gomez, 24 of Rosindale, police said. He was charged with operating under the influence of drugs, possession with the intent to distribute a Class D narcotic, trafficking a Class B narcotic, improper use of a mobile phone, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and not having an inspection sticker.
Troopers followed a gray 2005 Honda Accord into an Enterprise Rent-a-Car lot after they witnessed Gomez texting while driving shortly after 5 p.m., police said.
In conducting the traffic stop in the lot, police detected a strong odor of marijuana, which Gomez admitted to smoking before troopers stopped him, authorities said.
Troopers then arrested Gomez and searched the car where they found and seized the four pounds of marijuana, 1,000 Adderall pills with a weight of 400 grams, five cartons containing 500 cartridges of THC and $5,547 in cash.
Gomez was released on $500 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Falmouth District Court.
