It’s not just weed: hemp and CBD industries are a multi-billion dollar industry. Experts talk the trends at Oct. 2 event. –

Everyone is keeping an eye on marijuana legalization, but there’s opportunity in another cash crop: hemp.

Industrial hemp, marijuana’s mild cousin, has been used globally to make products such as automotive parts, furniture, textiles, food, beverages, beauty products and construction supplies. And then there’s the market of hemp-derived CBD, projected to hit $20 billion by 2024.

A panel of experts will speak about hemp and CBD at the The NJ Cannabis Insider Fall Live event on Oct. 2, an all-day, multi-track panel event at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison. Click here to buy your tickets now.

Ken VandeVrede, CEO of HillviewMed, Lee Vartan, criminal defense attorney with Chiesa Shahinian and Giantamosi, Jennifer Cabrera, attorney with hemp and cannabis firm Vicente Sederberg, and Faye Coleman, CEO of Pure Genesis, will speak about the opportunities in the legal hemp and CBD industries.

While New Jersey falls behind our neighbors in Pennsylvania and New York when it comes to farming hemp, there’s still plenty of opportunity around the corner. Gov. Phil Murphy signed a law launching a program to grow hemp freely in the Garden State in August.

Federal and state guidelines are expected to be issued in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, CBD has thrived in a gray area, as little regulation on the products has created consumer confusion.

“The hemp industry could really be a boon to rural areas in New Jersey,” Cabrera said. “Having legalized hemp in this state paves the way for us to have regulation by Department of Health for all of the CBD that’s going to be sold in the state.”

The event packs in a full day of programming, panel discussions, networking opportunities and lunch. Space is limited and tickets won’t last. Regular price tickets are $180. NJ Cannabis Insider members get discounted entry.
