  • Former Novartis/Sandoz pharma plant in Broomfield revived after recent closure
  • Up to 100 new jobs to be created in 2019

(BROOMFIELD, Colo.), October 9, 2019Mile High Labs, the largest manufacturers of cannabidiol (CBD) isolate in the world, this week opened their new, 400,000-square-foot production facility. The fully operational plant allows Mile High Labs to expand into production of capsules, tablets, topicals, and gummies in addition to CBD isolate and distillate ingredients. The facility includes equipment and infrastructure for research and development, quality assurance, bottling, filling, packing, warehousing, labeling, shipping and compliance monitoring.

The State of Colorado has created an environment for Mile High Labs to thrive, and the City of Broomfield has been a great partner in this process.

Stephen Mueller, CEO and founder, Mile High Labs

We are excited about this next chapter in our company’s history and look forward to being a part of this wonderful community.

Governor Jared Polis provided the keynote speech at the event, which was attended by more than 100 community members, industry leaders, and elected officials.

“Thanks to Mile High Labs, we have a new incubator for research and collaboration within the cannabinoid extraction industry,” said Governor Polis. “Just as Silicon Valley fostered innovation and collaboration in the tech industry, Broomfield will become the center for the CBD industry to learn, innovate, and grow.”

The governor also proclaimed October 8, 2019 to be Mile High Labs Day in Colorado.

New Facility Will Be The Center Of The Cbd Universe

Colorado is the center of the hemp industry and, within it, the Mile High Labs campus will be its epicenter. The company plans to create an environment for advanced research and collaboration within the industry.

“This building will be the hub of innovation in the industry,” said Mueller. “There is so much excitement surrounding hemp and cannabinoids. We hope this facility will spur other companies to collaborate and innovate in Colorado and create a cluster of cannabinoid innovation.”

Maximum Capacity To Supply Growing Demand

The Broomfield campus marks the third move since the Colorado company was founded in 2016. Originally based in Longmont, production moved to a larger building in Loveland in 2017. The company began looking for a larger facility after the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and created unprecedented demand for CBD.

According to the the Brightfield Group, CBD market is expected to grow into a $23.7 billion industry by 2023.

A Boon For Broomfield

Mile High Labs employs people in mid- and high-wage fields ranging from production, engineering, maintenance, and fulfillment to sales, accounting, marketing, research and development, and regulation/compliance.

“We are grateful to the City of Broomfield and the State of Colorado for creating an environment where we can be a long-term partner in the economic success of this community,” said Mr. Mueller. “We look forward to continued growth and hope Broomfield residents and current and former employees of the facility will consider new opportunities with us.”

The building was previously owned by pharmaceutical manufacturing giant Novartis. With the re-opening of the facility, Mile High Labs hopes to hire many of those former employees.
