Cannabis in Kansas: Residents Are Taking Action – Market Realist

Cannabis is illegal in Kansas, and cannabis laws are pretty strict in the state. Currently, 33 states and Washington, D.C., have legalized medical marijuana. However, medical cannabis is still illegal in Kansas. In fact, even having a small amount is considered a crime.

Medical cannabis still illegal in Kansas

Medical cannabis is booming in many states, as cannabis has a lot of health benefits. Research shows medical marijuana can help treat chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, and many other diseases. In fact, a survey has shown that CBD oil can treat epilepsy to some extent. Despite the benefits, some states are rigid on the legalization issue. Many states that have passed bills have faced issues from Republicans. Texas and a few other states have faced opposition from Republicans in their efforts to make weed legal.

Residents of Kansas unhappy with cannabis laws

It appears that Kansas’s residents are unhappy with the medical cannabis laws. Weed being illegal in the state is forcing residents to move out to get treatment. KCTV5 News reported last month that one family moved to Colorado to get treatment for their daughter.

What’s the progress on the medical cannabis program in Kansas?

Like Floridians, residents in Kansas are now stepping up to get medical cannabis legalized. Floridians have introduced marijuana campaigns to get signatures in favor of legalization.

According to a statewide poll, voters in Kansas are now pushing for a medical marijuana bill. The poll results show that around 70.3% of Kansans support legalization.

According to a Kansas City article, voters have provided oral and written support for legalization. It appears Governor Laura Kelly is also a supporter. However, Republicans could provide opposition. We expect the matter to be a topic of debate for Kansas in the 2020 elections.

Neighboring states’ laws

Colorado, Oklahoma, and Missouri have legalized some form of cannabis. Kansas is still doubtful. The state has tried to present many medical marijuana bills that haven’t been approved due to a lack of information on the impact of marijuana on public safety.

President Donald Trump’s administration has left the states to decide for now. More states, including Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, and Ohio, are stepping up to legalize some forms of weed. However, full-scale legalization is still a question in the US.
