Smart textiles, CBD and new fibers on the agenda at HTT conference tomorrow – Home Textiles Today

New York – A host of new textiles ingredients and technologies are on the launchpad, and tomorrow’s HTT conference will cover the most exciting developments.

The third annual Material Changes conference in Manhattan will take place at the Prince George Ballroom, 15 E. 27th St., between Fifth and Madison Avenues. Registration and continental breakfast opens at 8:00 a.m. The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and includes refreshment breaks, lunch and a reception following the close at 3:30 p.m.

The for forward-thinking suppliers and retailers is designed for those interested in learning about trail-blazing developments in home textiles. The fast-moving yet in-depth program will feature experts in their respective fields and a rare opportunity to learn from and connect with innovative resources, while also networking with industry peers.

Sandra Krasovec, coordinator for the Packaging Design BFA program at FIT, will share her insights about new materials and processes in development as the consumer products industry takes a 360-degree approach to reducing waste and harmful materials.

Debera Johnson, professor at the Pratt Institute, will share cutting-edge smart textile technologies on the launch pad and look at advances being developed for the medical, military and athleisureware industries, among others.

John Kagia, chief knowledge officer for New Frontier Data, is considered to be one the pioneering thought leaders in the cannabis industry. He will discuss the CBD landscape and how consumer products, including home textiles, can capture their piece of the pie.

Caroline O’Connell, curatorial assistant Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, is an expert on how designers are using new materials inspired by nature. She will address the fibers, materials and finishes suppliers are working on to alleviate the stresses being placed on water supplies and arable land.

Celeste Lilore, director of industry engagement at Textile Exchange, recently returned from the organization’s global conference in Vancouver. She will present data on the increased production of cellulosic fibers, recycled poly, organic cotton and BCI cotton.

Material Changes will also host two panel discussions.

Driving the Circularity Message to Consumers will feature Lenzing senior business development manager Walter Bridgham and Loftex USA CEO Charles Gaenslen. They will discuss how stakeholders in the product journey are working together to make consumers aware of their advances in circularity.

Real Life Benefits of Fiber Traceability will include Buxton Midyette, Supima’s VP of marketing, will be joined to an executive from fiber typing technology provider Oritain and a brand partner to discuss how traceability is critical and best practices to integrating it into product marketing.

The afternoon’s final speaker will be Robert J. Leo, a partner in the New York office of Meeks, Sheppard, Leo & Pillsbury and legal counsel for the Home Fashion Products Association. He will cover the latest tariff and regulatory developments impacting home textiles.
