Chicago Heights To Hold Public Hearing On Recreational Cannabis – Chicago Heights, IL Patch

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL – The Chicago Heights City Council „Committee to Consider Recreational Cannabis” will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss and receive public comment and opinion on Illinois' newly adopted Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act.

The Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act legalizes and regulates the production, consumption, and sale of cannabis in Illinois.

Starting January 1, 2020, adults 21 and older may possess cannabis and purchase cannabis products in licensed stores. According to the Marijuana Policy Project, possession is limited to:

  • 30 grams of raw cannabis;
  • Cannabis-infused product or products containing no more than 500 mg of THC; and
  • Five grams of cannabis product in concentrated form.

Non-residents may purchase half that amount or 15 grams of cannabis, 250 mg of THC in a cannabis-infused product and 2.5 grams of concentrated cannabis product.

The upcoming public hearing will take place at the Chicago Heights Municipal Building which is located at 1601 Chicago Rd. in Chicago Heights.
