Eau Claire North student allegedly uses THC vape, receives medical treatment – WQOW TV News 18

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Earlier this week, an Eau Claire North student needed medical attention after allegedly vaping marijuana on school grounds. Now, school administration is asking both students and parents to have conversations about the consequences of vaping.

Police told News 18 a group of students was smoking what are called „dank vapes” in the school’s parking lot on Tuesday. One student required medical attention.

According to the CDC, some of the contents of these THC vape pods are known. Experts say they can cause severe lung injuries that could lead to hospitalization or even death.

Now, the high school is planning information sessions to encourage conversations about the health, legal and academic consequences that vaping can cause.

„Part of the challenges that we have with students is they violate the rules and the code of conduct so they get consequences for their behavior, but they need support in these situations as well so they can get help with some of these addictions,” said North High School principal Cale Bushman.

Bushman added that the problem isn’t unique to North, and educators across the country are forced to look into preventative steps.

North does have disciplinary actions in place for anyone who gets caught vaping at school, and they work with local law enforcement on these cases.

The school doesn’t have a set date for this information session yet. We’ll continue to bring you updates as that information becomes available.
