Dion Waiters found a way to almost top his THC edibles suspension – New York Post

First it was a plane incident, and now it is a boat trip.

The Heat suspended guard Dion Waiters for six games after he posted a photo of himself on a boat on Instagram after he told the team he was unavailable due to sickness, Five Reasons Sports Network reported.

It is Waiters’ third suspension of the season and will keep him out through the Heat’s game on Dec. 23 against the Jazz.

Waiters has since made his Instagram private. Sources told the sports blog that the incident alone was not worthy of a suspension, but came as a result of “continued insubordination” by Waiters.

Waiters has yet to appear for the Heat this season.

The 28-year-old, who is in his eighth NBA season, was suspended in November for 10 games following a reported panic attack on the team plane caused by ingesting THC-infused edibles. The NBA prohibits the use of THC, one of the primary elements in cannabis.

He also was suspended in October for the season opener for detrimental conduct, though no specifics were disclosed.

Waiters, a Syracuse product, appeared in 44 games for the Heat in 2018-19. He averaged 12.0 points, 2.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game.

He signed a four-year, $52 million contract with Miami in July 2017.
