A 38-year-old Myrtle Beach woman has been charged with child neglect after she gave berth to a baby that tested positive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, according to a Conway police report.

On Dec. 18, police met with a Department of Social Services worker who said Katherine Elizabeth Lush and her baby tested positive for THC at Conway Medical Center, the incident report states. The social worker showed officers the child’s drug screen to document the positive test.

As part of a safety plan, the child was put into custody of the paternal grandmother, the report states.

On Dec. 19, Lush was arrested and charged with unlawful neglect of a child. J. Reuben Detention Center records show she was booked there at 2:26 p.m. and released Dec. 20 at 4:19 p.m.

In South Carolina, a person convicted of unlawful neglect of a child can be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
