Hake placed on leave | News, Sports, Jobs – Youngstown Vindicator

Western Reserve High School football coach Andrew Hake is on indefinite paid administrative leave after admitting to using vape pen and having THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) on him on school grounds.

On Thursday, Jan. 9, Western Reserve Middle School principal Mike Sauner entered the men’s staff restroom and noticed the powerful smell of marijuana, according to a letter by Western Reserve High School principal Dallas Saunders and superintendent Doug McGlynn, explaining the summary of events leading to Hake’s leave.

Saunders was called by the Tribune Chronicle/The Vindicator, but a message left for him was unreturned.

Mahoning County Deputy Sheriff Joel Gensler, a school resource officer for Western Reserve, confirmed the odor smelled by Sauner, according to the letter. Through review of the film at the middle school, Hake, a middle school teacher, was the last to use the bathroom.

After admitting to having a Vape pen and THC on him, Hake said “he was sorry” and “he was wrong,” and “he knew he shouldn’t have marijuana on him.” He continued to ask if “there was anything we could do?. Not fire him.”

According to webmd.com, THC is the main psychoactive compound in marijuana. It is not known, according to the summary of events, if Hake’s use of THC was for medicinal purposes.

Hake was called by the Tribune Chronicle/The Vindicator, but a message left for him was unreturned.

Hake recently won his 100th game at Western Reserve this fall and finished his 11th season. The Blue Devils made it to the Division VI, Region 21 postseason this past fall. Western Reserve advanced to the state semifinals twice under Hake this past decade.
