Two Atlanta men, one in the U.S. on expired visa, charged with trafficking marijuana – Montgomery Advertiser

Two Atlanta men, one in the U.S. on an expired visitor’s visa, were booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility Thursday morning accused of trafficking marijuana and having other controlled substances in their possession.

Blanton Moses, 53, and 38-year-old Dewayne Arnold Thompson were stopped about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday along Interstate 85 southbound near the Chantilly Parkway exit by a state trooper, according to their court records.

The trooper „detected the smell of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle,” according to their charging documents.

Upon searching the vehicle, the trooper found marijuana in excess of 2.2 pounds, though it did not specify exactly how much, THC extract oil, THC-infused gummy candies and several Hydrocodone pills, according to court records.

A Springfield XDS semi-automatic .45 caliber pistol was also found in the vehicle belonging to Moses. At some point, Moses allegedly admitted to the state trooper that he had a prior felony conviction for possession of cocaine in 1999 out of Georgia.

Thompson, a citizen of Trinidad, also allegedly told troopers that he arrived in New York in 2000 on the visa. The documents expired in 2010, according to Thompson’s court records.

According to court records, for the past 15 years Thompson said he’d been working for Moses, though court records do not say what kind of work the two did.

Both men were charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of the THC oil and possession of the prescription pills. They each have a combined $30,000 bond for the three charges.

If convicted, the men face a minimum of three years in prison on the marijuana trafficking charge with a $25,000 fine, and a minimum of one year and a day in prison for the two Class D felony possession charges.
