Teaneck Teacher Arrested After THC Found In 4-Year-Olds System – Teaneck, NJ Patch

TEANECK, NJ — A teacher from Teaneck was arrested after doctors at Hackensack University Medical Center discovered that a 4-year-old had consumed THC while under his watch, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Avi Mandel, 30, was arrested Tuesday after a child was brought to the hospital who was „lethargic and unable to stand.” Mandel is not a teacher employed by the township’s public school district, a Teaneck Public Schools representative confirmed.

Test results found THC, the psychoactive component found in cannabis, present in the child’s body. Authorities did not disclose how the THC ended up in the child’s system.

The Bergen County Special Victims Unit and Teaneck Police Department determined that the child was in the custody of Mandel at the time.

Mandel is charged with one count of child endangerment, one count of marijuana possession (less than 50 grams) and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia.

He was released from custody pending first appearance.
