Penguin CBD Overview

Penguin has a well-balanced product portfolio, offering customers oils, gummies, topicals and capsules. We do wish there were a few more product choices, especially with edibles and topicals, but they have more than enough variety to please most CBD fans.

Like many other CBD brands, they have a subscribe and save program that allows you to save 15 percent on each monthly order. Penguin doesn’t offer any full-spectrum products, just isolate and broad-spectrum. Everything they offer is THC-free.

Penguin also offers a 25 percent discount to active military members and veterans. We appreciate and support their efforts to give back to those who have served. Penguin’s branding is unique, and the story behind it is explained well on the website. The brand’s About page says: “Penguins are known to keep calm and waddle on. They dive into life, find warmth among friends, take long walks, stand together to face challenges, go the extra mile and lastly keep their cool under pressure.”

The idea of a penguin remaining calm under pressure and making the best of their lives fueled the company’s branding, and they made it stylish and fun. Penguin CBD wants everyone to live their best lives, stress-free.

The Good:

  • Memorable branding
  • Military discount and Penguin CBD scholarship
  • Accurate labeling verified by our third-party lab results

The Bad:

  • No full-spectrum CBD products available
  • Product portfolio is decent, but not as extensive as some other CBD brands

Who Is Penguin CBD?

Although only founded in 2019, Penguin CBD has already made waves on the CBD scene. Their team—composed of a group of trained experts from different areas of expertise, including farmers and lab technicians—believes that the key to Penguin’s success is the transparency of its products, and the accessibility and affordability it provides. Penguin CBD is recognized as one of the top brands on the market right now by major publications like Rolling Stone, The Daily Beast and Maxim, as well as cannabis publication Merry Jane.[1]

Their Approach

Penguin CBD aims to be open, transparent, high quality and simply a cut above the rest. They also want to be chill and fun. Penguin CBD notes that they source their hemp from farms in Oregon. We appreciate this transparency, as many brands don’t state clearly where their hemp is grown. Their website says they use no pesticides during the cultivation process and are dedicated to remaining eco-conscious by using sustainable farming practices. Penguin uses a CO2 method of extraction to formulate their broad-spectrum and isolate extracts.

We definitely agree with their claims of transparency, because they have third-party lab results easily available to view on their website. In addition, unlike some CBD brands, the results show more than just a cannabinoid profile or a solvent and pesticide test.

The Penguin website shows everything that the customer would want to know before purchasing their product. The ingredients for every product are also easily available on each product page—another win for transparency.

Penguin CBD: Product Highlights

The product line isn’t overwhelming, like that of some other brands we have reviewed, so new CBD users shouldn’t feel stressed out or confused when trying to select a product. The product page on the website is easy to navigate.

CBD Oils

The product page for the oils is sleek and streamlined. We can easily see that Penguin offers their broad-spectrum extract in three dosages: 250 milligrams, 600 milligrams and 1,000 milligrams. You simply select the dosage and flavor you want without leaving the original page. You don’t have to click through pages of products to find the oil you want.

The oil is offered in five different flavors: natural, mint, citrus, strawberry, and a pretty unique flavor of cookies and cream. The 250 milligram bottle costs $45, the 600 milligram bottle costs $75 and the 1,000 milligram bottle costs $105. This is reasonable as far as pricing goes, and keep in mind you can save 15 percent when you join their monthly subscription program.

The ingredients in Penguin CBD oils are hemp oil, MCT oil, natural flavor and terpenes. They also note that the cookies and cream flavor contains artificial flavoring. Again, their commitment to transparency is admirable.

CBD Capsules

Penguin’s CBD capsules have 10 milligrams of CBD per serving and there are 30 capsules in each bottle. The ingredients are simple: coconut-derived MCT oil, gelatin, purified water and glycerin. Penguin says: “We recommended CBD capsules for anyone who wants to take CBD but isn’t a fan of the taste. They are totally flavorless and go down quickly. No need to hold it under the tongue like you do with CBD oils.” The CBD capsules retail for $45. This seems to be on par with average industry prices.

CBD Edibles

Penguin CBD only offers one edible product, and that is their CBD gummy worms. One package has 30 worms, and each worm is packed with 10 milligrams of CBD. The gummy worms are CBD isolate to preserve a nice-tasting CBD treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. Their CBD gummies have plenty of rave reviews on the company’s website, so they must be doing something right.

CBD Topicals

Penguin CBD offers a 250 milligram CBD cream. According to the company, the cream’s terpene-rich formula is designed to be absorbed quickly so it can restore and protect your skin. It has a unique peppermint lavender scent, which is unlike anything else we’ve seen.

It costs $55, which we feel might be slightly pricey for what you are getting. However, the ingredients are luxurious, and include peppermint oil, lavender oil, shea butter, aloe and cocoa butter.

Our Lab Findings

We sent off a sample of Penguin’s 600 milligram broad-spectrum CBD oil to a third-party laboratory. We believe in backing up any claims that may be made, which is why we take the initiative to get these lab results.

We found that the actual CBD content is slightly higher than the label indicates. This is not a bad thing because it is nearly within the 10 percent variance considered normal. The label indicates there are 600 milligrams of CBD and our third-party lab results found 666 milligrams in the bottle.

There is no THC in the product, which is exactly what they advertise. Also, the cannabinoid profile is one of the most robust of all the brands we have reviewed. The lab results showed the product to contain 21 milligrams of CBG, 21 milligrams of CBC and 18 milligrams of CBN. This is a diverse and hearty cannabinoid profile. There were no solvents or pesticides detected in the product.

Shipping and Returns

Penguin CBD offers free shipping on all U.S. orders, which is great and helps to make their already affordable products that much more accessible. The website claims that most people receive their orders within two or three business days. The brand does ship to the U.K. and Canada for an additional cost.

The day after we ordered our CBD, it was boxed up and sent out. It arrived in the mail just two days later, so the total processing and shipping time was just three days. We are definitely impressed with Penguin’s turnaround time as far as shipping goes. Penguin offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. They simply ask you to contact customer service to obtain a shipping label and ship the unused product back to them.

Our Verdict on Penguin CBD

Penguin CBD is overall a great company, and they hit the nail on the head in every important area. The products are top-quality, the labeling is accurate, they have an awesome cannabinoid profile, they are transparent and the branding is on point.

All of their products contain absolutely no THC. In addition, nearly all their products use a premium broad-spectrum blend, aside from their gummies, which use isolate to preserve the customer-pleasing taste. This is great for those who want to avoid full-spectrum products and the extra bit of THC they include. We are comfortable recommending this brand without reservation to anyone who wants to try CBD for the first time, or is already an aficionado.
