Experimental Farms CBD offers variety of products locally – The Owensboro Times

Clay Powell and his family recently finished their second year as hemp farmers. His small family-owned business, called Experimental Farms CBD, grows about 1,500 plants a year in Philpot.

Powell said every year the number of plants goes down, but the quality goes up.

Powell, who is a Daviess County native, got started growing hemp after making a phone call to Paul Glover, owner of Mile Marker 5 CBD. He invited Powell out to his farm, and that’s how it all started.

“I have bought my plants from him both years,” he said. “He has really helped me in this industry. We (Powell’s family) have learned a lot over the past two years.”

Powell said he’s not afraid of hard work.

“I knew a little bit about farming and gardening, but not much,” he said. “Its been a learning experience, from tractors, genetics, cover crops, soil tests, dryings rooms, too much rain,  humidity, worms, blight and mold. I still love it though. I believe in every part of this plant.”

Powell grows hemp for CBD trichome production.

“It’s organic, no pesticides and no herbicides,” he said. “We grow using organic practices, and our hemp and our product are all tested by KDA and a third-party lab out of Lexington. Our products are full-spectrum, meaning they contain a very small amount of THC.”

All of Powell’s products are made from CBD they grow. Some of his products include CBD oil, CBD salve, bath bombs, bath salts, CBD dog oil and a Menthol muscle rub.

Powell said he is currently looking for a local store to carry his products.

“One shelf — that’s all we are looking for,” he said. “I will send my Owensboro people to that shelf. This could help us so much.”

Experimental Farms products can be found online or on Facebook.
