Maui Grown Therapies presents a free webinar on “Cannabis and Cancer Care” featuring Dr. Donald Abrams, Integrative Oncologist at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. The live streaming event will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, as part of the ongoing Maui Grown Manaʻo Educational Series.

Before his retirement, Dr. Abrams was Chief of Hematology-Oncology at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital where he was a pioneer in HIV/AIDS care and research.  Over his career, he completed research in complementary and alternative therapies, including mind-body interventions, botanical therapies, medical use of marijuana and traditional Chinese medicine herbal therapies.

Participants will learn about the use of cannabis in treating Cancer Symptoms.  Dr. Abrams will share what he has learned throughout his research and treatment of his many patients during the span of his career.  He will also describe how cannabis can be used as part of an integrative health approach.

“The greatest pain I have had is when a patient waited to come into the clinic because they thought using a high potency oil would cure their cancer, whereas if they had come to see me right away, they would have had a greater chance for survival” said Dr. Abrams in an event announcement.  “Cannabis is a potentially useful tool in symptom management.  A single treatment that can increase appetite, decrease nausea and vomiting, relieve pain and improve mood and sleep.”

Dr. Abrams currently serves as Medical Advisor on Maui Grown Therapies’ stellar Science and Medical Advisory Board. He has led numerous research projects and has recently served on the prestigious National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Committee of The Health Effects of Cannabis and Cannabinoids: “The Current State of Evidence and Recommendations for Research.”
