A new poll commissioned by the marijuana reform group Florida for Care has found that 59% of Florida voters support legalization of recreational marijuana.
It also found that 58% are against imposing restrictions on the THC content of already-legal medical marijuana.
Last week, a state house subcommittee approved a bill that would cap THC in smokable medical cannabis at 10%.
On WJCT News’ First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross Wednesday, Ben Pollara of Florida for Care alleged the Florida Legislature is denying the will of voters – year after year. He said the bill put forward this year would gut the medical marijuana system in Florida, which is popular.
“Fifty-eight percent of people want to expand it, another 20% of the people think it’s fine the way it is; so almost 80% of people are either happy with the medical marijuana system or want to see more of it.”
Pollara said the THC caps would reduce the potency of the medicine, drive up the costs, and drive many patients to the black market.
