There’s one day in the month of April that is beloved by cannabis consumers everywhere — the 20th.
As legend puts it, the significance of the date has a storied history dating back to the 70′s when a group of high schoolers banded together to search for an abandoned cannabis crop in San Rafael, California. They routinely met at 4:20 p.m. and the time and date have since become recognized as cannabis slang for consumption of the plant.
Recognizing the popularity of the date for cannabis consumers, many dispensaries will celebrate the date with events or new products. Here’s what some Mass. dispensaries have planned.
Berkshire Roots – 501 Dalton Avenue, Pittsfield, MA
The dispensary says it plans to drop six new products on 4/20 with a celebration event kicking off at 10 a.m. Tuesday including:
- Fernway & Betty’s Eddies and Alternative Wellness Centers on site providing education and information on cannabis throughout the day.
- Grillin & Chillin food truck starting at noon.
- Music from Tony Lee Thomas & Jenny Porter as well as Melissa A. Brinton beginning at noon.
The dispensary will continue celebrations on 4/24 with a Berkshire Roots booth, doctor booth, Ozzie Steak & Eggs food truck and Bertha tye-dyed Air Streamer from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Bud’s Goods & Provisions – 64 W. Boylston St., Worcester, MA
This Worcester dispensary is celebrating 4/20 by raffling off a Keith Haring tray. To enter the raffle you must be 21+ years of age, like the Instagram post, follow the Bud’s Instagram page and tag a bud. The winner will be announced on 4/20.
Cultivate – 1764 Main St., Leicester, MA & 250 Worcester Road, Framingham, MA
Cultivate is celebrating 4/20 by offering 20% off for medical patients when purchasing any four edibles. Adult-use customers can get discounts on ancillary or apparel items including 10% off on purchases of $50, 20% on purchases of $100 and 30% off purchases of $200.
Garden Remedies – 416 Boston Post Road, E. Marlborough, MA & 723 Broadway Melrose, MA & 697 Washington St., Newton, MA
Garden Remedies and its three Mass. dispensaries are celebrating by offering two “4/20 bundles.”
- The “Intro to Cannabis” bundle offers new cannabis consumers a layout of various edibles.
- Experienced cannabis consumers can purchase the “Cannasseur Bundle,” which features “the most potent products available.”
NETA – 160 Washington St., Brookline, MA & 118 Conz St., Northampton, MA
In honor of 4/20, NETA is letting cannabis fans have a chance to be featured on their social media as part of their “Just roll with it” campaign. Fans can make a “Just roll with it” meme, tag NETA and use #JustRollWithIt leading up to 4/20.
The dispensary is also encouraging fans to use its delivery service to re-stock ahead of 4/20.
Western Front – 121 Webster Ave., Chelsea, MA
Chelsea’s first cannabis dispensary has a full day of 4/20 celebrations planned including food trucks, live music, vendor pop-ups, an art gallery and more.
