Jacksonville, Florida (BRPROUD) — The mother of a 6-year-old girl who overdose THC is wondering why it is packaged in a way that appeals to her child.
Morgan Maccoy’s 6-year-old daughter consumed 50 mg of THC, a chemical that causes most of the psychological effects of marijuana, after being found on a dresser.
A 6-year-old girl who visited her family and gathered in the pool found a package of brightly colored “gummy cannabis” and went looking for clothes.
The gummy belonged to a friend-in-law who was staying in the room where the girl would normally stay during her visit. A friend, one of about 30-40 friends who visited that weekend, had a gummy on the dresser between some clothes.
McCoy, who was visiting his sister at the time, went home and seemed to haven’t changed for a few hours. The parents then told her that her daughter might have eaten THC gummies.
McCoy immediately went looking for his daughter and found him lying with his eyes closed. McCoy picked her up and laid her on the couch, and the girl “bent over as if she felt like she was falling,” she said.
Her mother said the six-year-old child began to seize after 911 was called.
“I grabbed her and ran outside, walked back and forth waiting for the ambulance to arrive, wept uncontrollably, and shouted at God,” McCoy said.
Her six-year-old parents spent a tense night in the hospital. In the meantime, the girl’s “breathing rate per minute could drop to an order of magnitude,” McCoy said, “her heart rate soars to amazing levels for others.”
“I was up all night with my husband and was looking at those machines,” McCoy said. “It’s one of the scariest moments in my life and I don’t want other parents to experience it.”
The six-year-old child subsequently recovered and no one was prosecuted, but the case worked McCoy to regulate this market.
She said she called local, state, and national leaders to prevent what she called “a company targeting children with deadly doses of THC.”
McCoy provided another example of how THC is packaged below.
In contrast, she showed below what the label would look like when she purchased THC products from the pot dispenser.
McCoy said he is in favor of legalizing, regulating and taxing marijuana, despite calling for tighter regulations on how THC is sold.

The CDC added that signs of marijuana abuse include extreme confusion, anxiety, delusions, panic, fast heart rate, delusions or hallucinations, high blood pressure, and severe nausea or vomiting.
