Local CBD vendor facing facing federal crackdown suit – kwwl.com

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) – Since passing earlier this summer, Iowa’s Hemp Act has resulted in a lot of confusion over CBD’s legality.

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is derived from the hemp plant. And while it is still illegal for most people in Iowa, it’s use has grown in popularity.

Iowa’s Hemp Act opened the doors for legalized hemp production. However, it only applies for products containing less than 0.3% THC; the chemical that gives you a „high.”

According to Iowa Code, it defines all parts of the cannabis plant as marijuana. But, it excludes anything made from mature stalks of the plant or oils made from seeds.

But without a federal approval, you can still be arrested for possession. However, many people can still obtain CBD products online.

Jacob Trone is one of the co-owners of Jacob’s Ladder, which sells CBD products. He operates one store in Dubuque and five other locations in Wisconsin.

Trone’s Dubuque store hadn’t been open for a full month when he was served a lawsuit by the county for selling CBD products.

„It’s been a big growing part in Wisconsin and we wanted to help bring that here in Iowa,” said Trone. „But now it seems like we’re hitting the brakes a little bit.”

Trone could face multiple felony charges if the county decides to pursue legal action. He has since pulled many of his items off of the shelves.

„Hopefully when things adjust and we’re able to sell here, we’ll be here and ready and excited for that,” said Trone.

Trone said that his business will remain open and he wants to educate the public of the benefits of CBD. He is currently seeking counsel and plans to fight the case.

You must be 18 years or older, with a valid ID, to purchase any CBD products.
