Cannabis sales in Colorado eclipsed a record $2 billion in 2020, state records show.

According to the Department of Revenue’s Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED), adult-use cannabis shops throughout the Centennial State raked in nearly $1.6 billion year-to-date through November.

Meanwhile, medical marijuana dispensaries sold more than $405 million worth of products during the 11-month period.

By comparison, Colorado dispensaries sold a total of $1.7 million worth of cannabis in 2019.

December figures have not been released, however, between January and November, sales of cannabis were up 25% compared to the same 11-month period in 2019.

Once the final numbers from December 2020 are tallied, recreational cannabis shops alone could match or exceed total 2019 marijuana sales.

In November, adult-use dispensaries sold more than $175 million worth of cannabis, down from $199 million the month prior.

July 2020 was the most prosperous month for Colorado cannabis shops. Adult-use cannabis sales exceeded $183 million while medical marijuana sales topped $43 million — both all-time highs.

Statewide sales of cannabis have tripled since 2014, when marijuana was legalized.

Unsurprisingly, Denver country accounted for the majority of marijuana sales in 2020 – more than one-third of all cannabis sold in Colorado, according to state data cited by Fox affiliate KDVR.
